Arapahoe County’s Community Child Maltreatment Prevention

To better support families in Arapahoe County, the Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council (ACECC) applied for and received a Child Maltreatment Prevention Framework for Action (Framework) Community Planning Grant in October 2017, putting the county on the front lines of planning efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect in Colorado. In addition to financial assistance, the grant included extensive support from Early Milestones Colorado, a nonprofit intermediary that serves as a statewide conduit for best practices and high-impact ideas that promote success for young children and families in Colorado.

Arapahoe County plans to prevent child maltreatment

By summer 2019, three agencies will partner with ACECC to increase program participation by 5% (among all ACECC listed programs).

  • To provide non-English/non-Spanish speaking agencies program and staff support.

By summer 2019, 80% of State Innovation Model (SIM) primary care providers will have received messaging materials and 75% of Wellness Council partners will be trained to use family messaging materials.

  • Improve provider and family awareness and knowledge of Arapahoe County early childhood mental health resources.

By summer 2019, five agencies will implement family-friendly policies.

  • To raise awareness of family-friendly policies to support caregiver resilience.
