The JPB is a nine-member, Type 1 transfer board, supported by staff housed in the Office of Children, Youth, and Families (OCYF) within the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS). Members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. The JPB has independent authority to make parole decisions for all youth adjudicated to the Division of Youth Services (DYS) and is authorized by C.R.S 19-2.5-1201. The board is seeking applications for one public at-large seat. Additional information can be found on the JPB website here.

The mission of the JPB is to promote public safety by using statutory criteria in the best interest of the youth and victim when reintegrating the youth into the community. Parole hearings are held six days per month and board meetings are held once a month virtually or in Denver. This is not a full-time paid position, but the public at-large members are paid $75 for half day or $150 for full day and are reimbursed for actual expenses incurred, such as mileage and hotel when conducting board business. Applicants must not be employees of the state government.

Primary board member responsibilities are:

  • Committing to 25 to 30 hours a month conducting board business
  • Review youth files prior to parole hearings
  • Participate in 1 to 2 parole hearings per month
  • Attend the monthly statutorily required board meeting

CDHS values diversity on its boards and commissions to ensure adequate representation of stakeholders and the public. Therefore, we are requesting assistance in distributing this notice to interested and qualified individuals in your networks. If you or someone you know is interested in serving the state of Colorado in this capacity, please submit, or encourage them to submit, an application.

To apply for a seat on the Juvenile Parole Board, complete the Governor’s Office of Boards and Commissions Application and submit a current resume.  The application can be found here.

Application deadline is Friday, August 30, 2024.  For questions, please contact Lee Ann Brabec, JPB Administrator at leeann.brabec@state.co.us or at 303-506-0584.
