Governor Polis Proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention Month

April marks the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month in Colorado.

Communities across the nation and Colorado are planting pinwheel gardens and wearing blue throughout the month of April.

The Office of Children, Youth and Families calls all individuals, communities, legislators, state agencies, media, and organizations, as well as public and private service providers in the state, to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect from ever happening.

Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation 2024

WHEREAS, children have a right to thrive, learn, and grow to their full potential; and

WHEREAS, children are key to Colorado’s future success, prosperity, and quality of life; while children are our most precious resource, they are also our most vulnerable; and

WHEREAS, it is proven that family protective factors, including parent resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete supports in times of need and social and emotional competence of children, can promote optimal development of kids, strengthen families, and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect; and

WHEREAS, we all play a role in preventing child abuse and neglect, and there are ways everyone can get involved to help a child, even those individuals who aren’t raising a child or working with children every day; just one person has the power to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of both children and families; and

WHEREAS, it’s up to every Coloradan to provide safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments for our children, free of violence, abuse and neglect;

WHEREAS, Colorado is currently implementing initiatives for improving the safety and well-being of children and families across the state; and

WHEREAS, we strive to ensure that Colorado’s children reach their full potential and become productive and responsible citizens, contributing positively to the future of our communities, state, and nation as the next generation of leaders.

THEREFORE, I, Jared Polis, Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2024 as:
