Nominate a family for National Foster Care Month 2024
In preparation for National Foster Care Month in May, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) is asking individuals, counties, child placement agencies (CPAs) and tribes to recognize dedicated foster parents and kinship foster caregivers.
Every year during National Foster Care Month, CDHS recognizes five foster families from throughout Colorado at a special event. CDHS also develops marketing materials, social media memes, and videos to share each family’s story and inspire others to get involved. These resources are also shared with counties and CPAs.
Nominating organizations are invited to attend the event at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and will receive a family banner and can use family photos and videos on their websites.
To be considered foster parents or kinship caregivers must be currently certified as foster parents in Colorado. All nominations are welcome and encouraged. Research shows that the most effective way to recruit new foster and adoptive families is to share the stories and experiences of other families similar to them. Foster and kinship families are important partners in our recruitment efforts. In addition to being recognized at a special event at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, families may be:
- Asked to speak with members of the media
- Featured on social media and in public service announcements
- Featured on CO4Kids.org to inspire potential foster and adoptive families
- Featured in a statewide advertising campaign
All nominations must be received by EOD on Tuesday, February 27, 2023. Complete a nomination form. Please contact Adrienne Baxter adrienne.baxter@state.co.us if you have any questions about the nomination process.
