October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month<\/h1><\/div>\n\n\n\n

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). DVAM is an opportunity to uplift the voices of survivors and supporters and engage in a national conversation about domestic violence to help change the narrative on this important topic. Conversations contribute to raising awareness, increasing donations and volunteer efforts, and deepening community engagement by connecting our work nationwide.

More prevalent than most people realize, one in four women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. Anyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual identity or orientation, or socio-economic status, can experience domestic violence. This year\u2019s campaign theme is a continuation of the 2022 theme, #Every1KnowsSome1. This campaign strives to highlight how common domestic violence is and that it is more than physical violence.

The #Every1KnowsSome1 campaign focuses on the theme that\u00a0everyone knows someone affected by domestic violence, whether they realize it or not<\/strong>. High rates of domestic violence are not private, individual problems; they require community solutions. #Every1KnowsSome1 impacted by domestic violence, and everyone has a role to play in preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors.\u00a0Here’s how you can make an impact during DVAM: <\/strong>

Attend a DVAM event near you to support your local domestic violence agency<\/strong>.\u00a0Visit Violence Free Colorado’s events calendar\u00a0<\/a>to find events across Colorado throughout October, and check back often as more will be added.

For those in the Denver area,\u00a0join Violence Free Colorado in-person at 11 a.m. Oct. 19 for the\u00a0One Mile Closer to Hope Domestic Violence Awareness Month walk<\/strong>, co-hosted with\u00a0Rose Andom Center<\/a>.
\u00a0
Social Media Campaign:<\/strong>\u00a0Engage with Violence Free Colorado on\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0using the hashtag #Every1KnowsSome1 as they share insights and resources, spreading the word and creating a united front against domestic violence.

Purple Thursday:<\/strong>\u00a0No matter where you are\u00a0on Oct.19, wear purple to show your support of domestic violence survivors<\/strong>\u00a0and your commitment to ending abuse! Take a selfie in your purple and share it on social media with #PurpleThursday #DVAM #Every1KnowsSome1.

GiveForDV:<\/strong>\u00a0Donate to Violence Free Colorado<\/strong><\/a> or your local domestic violence program<\/strong>\u00a0to support their work serving survivors!\u00a0Local agency donation pages are linked in the map of Colorado<\/a>. Every gift makes a difference for survivors as they rebuild their lives free from abuse.

Each year, the Domestic Violence Program (DVP) at the Colorado Department of Human Services joins in state and nationwide initiatives. This year, DVP has created an email signature logo that individuals are invited to use throughout the month of October to raise awareness about domestic violence and the #Every1KnowsSome1 campaign.
