Youth Voice Matters! Help OCR Improve Its Services With This Survey
January 26, 2021
“Youth have a voice. They have a choice.”
“Youth opinions matter no matter what.”
“It’s our lives. We know our story best. It may be a GAL’s or a caseworker’s job, but it’s our lives.”
These quotes are just a few of the many incredibly powerful statements expressed by Colorado youth in Office of the Child's Representative (OCR) surveys and focus groups. As these statements, many laws and numerous social science sources demonstrate: Youth voice matters.
In recognition of the fact that youth voice matters and to place value on the true consumer of Guardium ad Litem (GAL) services – the young people whose best interests GALs represent - OCR is asking young people to complete a survey about their experiences. The survey results will help OCR make decisions during its process to renew contracts with attorneys who serve as GALs. While OCR will accept surveys throughout the year, they would love to collect as many surveys as possible by March 1, 2021.
Please share this survey with the young people in foster care who you know. Youth of all ages who have or have had a GAL on a dependency and neglect or delinquency case are welcome to complete the survey!
