Reunification Hero of the Week: Joe Stroh
June 15, 2020
“In a time when there’s so much division, I think it’s extremely important to make sure that the bonds within the family are stronger than ever.”
Joe Stroh is a family advocate with the Office of Respondent Parents’ Counsel (ORPC). Multiple parents’ attorneys nominated Joe Stroh as a Reunification Hero. Joe works as a family advocate on parent legal defense teams on the Western Slope to support, engage, and empower parents who are navigating the child welfare and juvenile court systems. Joe’s background as a caseworker and his passion for fairness make him an incredible asset to attorneys and parents. The ORPC is proud of Joe’s efforts to enhance parents’ legal representation and to ensure the parent voice is heard loud and clear. Here’s a video clip of Joe explaining his role and talking about a mother and her baby who were reunified against the odds right as the pandemic was hitting the nation. We also asked a mother who worked with Joe and reunified with her toddler in 2018. Here’s what she had to tell us about Joe:
“He’s amazing. I don’t think I would have been able to get my son back if it wasn’t for Joe. He helped me to understand how the system works because I had no clue….so he walked me through every little thing. It was crazy how much he helped me.”
When we asked her how she is doing now, she said “We are doing great, I got my kid back and we are doing really amazing."
Thank you to this parent speaking out and for Joe’s support in her – and many other families’—reunification efforts.
