Nominations for National Adoption Month 2020

July 6, 2020

In preparation for National Adoption Month in November 2020, the Colorado Department of Human (CDHS) is asking individuals, counties and child placement agencies (CPAs) to recognize a dedicated adoptive parent or parents. This year we are also celebrating the 15 year anniversary of the Colorado Heart Gallery. In addition to honoring five adoptive families, CDHS is also looking for an additional adoptive family who found and adopted a child or youth from the Colorado Heart Gallery and an adult adoptee who participated in the Colorado Heart Gallery.

Each National Adoption Month, CDHS honors adoptive families from throughout Colorado at a special event. CDHS also develops marketing materials, social media memes and short videos to share each adoptive family’s story and inspire others to get involved. This year the adoptive family and adult adoptee who are chosen for the Colorado Heart Gallery 15th Anniversary Campaign will be featured in a separate campaign showcasing the Colorado Heart Gallery. These resources are also shared with counties and CPAs.

All nominations are welcome and encouraged. This is years’ nomination form can also be used to nominate an adult adoptee for the Colorado Heart Gallery 15 year anniversary campaign. Research shows that the most effective way to recruit new foster and adoptive families is to share the stories and experiences of other families similar to them. Foster and adoptive families are important partners in our recruitment efforts. In addition to being recognized at the luncheon, families may be:

  • Asked to speak with members of the media
  • Featured on social media and in public service announcements
  • Featured on CO4Kids.org to inspire potential foster and adoptive families
  • Featured on the Colorado Heart Gallery
  • Featured in a statewide advertising campaign

The DEADLINE to nominate a family or an adult adoptee is September 8, 2020. Complete a nomination form today. Please contact Adrienne Cooper if you have any questions about the nomination process.
