TGYS team visits the SOCO Clubhouse in Trinidad

August 12, 2022

In July, a couple of Tony Grampsas Youth Services (TGYS) team members made a trip to Trinidad, Colorado, to meet with one of our wonderful youth support programs, SOCO Clubhouse. SOCO Clubhouse is an after-school program that strives to prevent youth from engaging in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use (ATOD Prevention) in Las Animas County.

The program’s director and only staff member, Jaime Primmer, works tirelessly to provide youth in her community a safe space to spend their time engaging in positive and supportive activities. SOCO Clubhouse operates six days a week and provides youth opportunities to participate in swimming activities, community gardening, life skills, wrestling, and open skating in the Clubhouse’s indoor skating rink. Jaime also makes a vigorous effort to engage youth that may not always be included, as she possesses a unique lived experience that guides her mission for inclusion.

Jaime and the youth were extremely gracious and welcoming as members of the TGYS team were invited to sit in on their “Life Skills” group where they shared their thoughts, ideas, and experiences with one another. The TGYS team really enjoyed the opportunity to take time getting to know Jaime and the SOCO youth and are appreciative of the warmth and kindness shown to the TGYS team. Thank you, SOCO Clubhouse for the Southern charm and hospitality!
