Real Stories

You don’t have to be a hero to change a young person's life. Meet ordinary people throughout Colorado who are making our state a better place for children.

The Smolleck Family

The Smolleck family, from Granby, Colorado, was one of five families honored at the CDHS luncheon in recognition of National Adoption Month. Chris and Jessica are the proud parents of two children that were adopted from the foster care system. Chris and Jessica (a former teacher) have always had a heart for kids so becoming foster then adoptive parents six years ago was a natural fit. They still stay in touch with many of the children who have been in their care.  “Our job is to make sure kids feel safe and to love them no matter what”
