The Rendon-Thofson Family

Mike and Chad Rendon-Thofson and their family were one of six foster families being honored by the Colorado Department of Human Services, in recognition of 2014 May Foster Care Month, for all that they have done for the children in their care and their communities. Mike and Chad decided to grow their family by adopting through the foster care system. “The phone call for our first placement was a shock. We had only been certified for about three weeks. The call was for a nine month old baby girl who was being brought to human services to be placed in foster care. We got everything together and then the day before we were supposed to pick her up, an aunt stepped in and decided to take custody of her,” said Mike. “We were glad. Family is where kids belong, and that's a missing piece.”
