Real Stories

You don’t have to be a hero to change a young person's life. Meet ordinary people from throughout Colorado who are making our state a better place for children.

The Barnett Family

The Barnett family, from Colorado Springs, Colorado, was one of five families honored at the CDHS luncheon in recognition of National Adoption Month.  Jon and Sharon are the proud parents of ten children, including two biological sons, a niece they adopted and two sets of sibling groups (seven children) all adopted from the foster care system.  When their niece needed a home, they became a kinship placement for her and became familiar with the foster care system. “We were starting to get that empty nest feeling that we weren’t quite ready for and decided to foster and adopt.”  They chose to adopt sibling groups because they understand keeping children together is important. When asked about their second set of siblings, they said, “Don’t split them up- we will take them all!”
