Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Attorney Training

July 25, 2019

Officials and employees of county departments of health, human services or social services are mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect in the state of Colorado.

The Butler Institute is hosting a free 4-day academy to help county human service agency attorneys build knowledge and skills in best practices for representing welfare agencies. The training will take place on September 9-12, 2019 from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm at the University of Denver, Sturn College of Law.

Post the Academy, one-on-one group circle mentoring through the Colorado Attorney Mentoring Program will be offered for one year for all participants.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a county attorney
  • Case process from opening to closure
  • Effective practices in working with caseworkers
  • Dynamics of families involved in child welfare
  • Caseload management
  • Self-care

This training is recommended for newer Colorado County Attorneys with less than three years of experience. Registration will be capped at 36 participants and closes on August 15, 2019.
